Joseph Thomas, b. 8 Dec. 1832 in Henry County,KY, , died 30 Sept. 1912, son of William Palmer and Permelia (Higgs) Palmer, and grandson of John Palmer (born about 1780 in Virginia). Married Lydia Ann Brinson of Nebraska City, NE // ***** // ***** // ***** // Joseph Thomas Palmer and Lydia Ann Brinson had 8 children; 1. & 2. Mary Irene PALMER and her twin sister (who died at birth of injuries received before birth when the mother was thrown from a wagon by a team of run-away colts, which brought on the birth prematurely). The twins were born 4 Sept. 1862 at Rock Bluffs, NE on the Missouri River, where the family lived while Joseph Thomas Palmer was freighting across the plains from Nebraska City, NE to Denver, CO, with provisions for the (then) little mining town of Denver; 3. Thomas Shannon PALMER, born 4 May 1864 in Rock Bluff, died of T.B. 27 Nov. 1885, never married; 4. Anne Adeline PALMER, born in Rock Bluffs 1 Jan. 1867, married Alan Jerome Phillips on 15 Jan. 1882; Bertha Irene Phillips was the only child of my Anne Adeline Palmer's first marriage, and was born 21 Mar. 1883. Bertha's father (Alan Jerome Phillips) died of pneumonia when she was 11 months old, and Anne Adeline (Palmer) Phillips then married 2) James Madison Fox of Brainerd, NE by whom she had 2 additional children: Walter E. PHILLIPS, who died in infancy and Alice Elizabeth PHILLIPS, last known residence in Lake Charles, LA. // ***** // ***** // ***** // ***** // Obituary found in family Bible reads as follows: "Died, September 30, at the home of his son, west of Davey, Joseph T. Palmer, aged 79 years 9 months, and 23 days. Mr. Palmer was born near Thornton, Indiana, December 8, 1832, came to Nebraska July 4, 1856, and on December 11, 1861, was united in marriage to Miss Lydia Bimson [should be Brinson] in Cass County, this state. To this union two sons and six daughters were born. One son and two of the daughters and the wife survive the deceased. The son, Arthur F. Palmer, who resides on the farm near Davey; the daughters Mrs. Will Hawkins of Nordin [correct spelling: Norden] and Mrs. A. B. Cline of Ashland, and the wife, Mrs. J. T. Palmer of this city. For forty-five years Mr. Palmer had been a faithful member of the Christian Church and the funeral services, which were held at Raymond, were conducted by Rev. Wm. Cary, pastor of the Christian church at Bennett. A large number of friends and neighbors being present to pay a last tribute of love and respect to the deceased and to sympathize with the sorrowing relatives. We extend to the relatives our sympathy in their bereavement."
