Notes

Lived in California, Washington, & Pennsylvania (according to entry on Family Search web site) // I've been told his wife, Florence Hawkins, was killed in New York, so it is possible the family lived there also. The Family Search entry estimates date of marriage as 1909, but I would estimate date of marriage about five years earlier (around 1905)- definitely prior to April 1906, as Florence died April 24, 1906 and is buried in the West Norden Cemetery in Keya Paha County, Nebraska. I know of only one child born to Florence Hawkins & J. W. Bacon, a daughter named Clara (or Claire) Bacon. She would have had to be born sometime before April 24, 1906, as that is when her mother, Florence Hawkins Bacon, died. // ***** // ***** // ***** // It appears that James Bacon is the son of William S. and Nancy J. Bacon. I have found a James W. Bacon (born Feb. 1884) listed as their son in Nebraska Census records, and Nancy J. Bacon is buried in the Norden Cemetery near the grave of Florence (Hawkins) Bacon (wife of James W. Bacon). // ***** // ***** // ***** // ***** // 1900 > NEBRAKSA CENSUS > KEYA PAHA COUNTY > MCGUIRE PRECINCT > SERIES: T623 > ROLL: 931 > PAGE: 284 > Enumerated June 1, 1900 Residence #1 > Household #1, Lines 1-4 >BACON, William > Head > White Male > Age 51 (actual document appears to show age as 50) > Born Dec. 1849 (?? / hard to read) in England > Married 27 years > Father born England > Mother born England > Immigrated to U.S. in 1855 > Occupation Farmer >BACON, Nancy J. > Wife > White Female > Age 46 > Born Nov. 1853 in Pennsylvania > Married 27 years > 5 Children with 5 Living > Father born Pennsylvania > Mother born Pennsylvania > No occupation listed >BACON, James W. > Son > White Male > Age 16 > Born Feb. 1884 in Pennsylvania > Single > Occupation: At School >BACON, Leina (Sp? / hard to read) > Daughter > White Female > Age 18 > Born Feb. 1887 in Pennsylvania > Occupation: At School // ***** // ***** // ***** // According to an online copy of the History of Western Nebraska, William S. Bacon was born in Sheffield, England on December 18, 1849, came to the United States in 1856 with his father and mother (William & Susanna Bacon), lived in Pennsylvania until the age of 21, and moved to Nebraska in 1887. In 1889, he moved to Keya Paha County. William S. Bacon & Nancy J. Melchi (Melki?) were married in 1873 in Pensylvania. They were the parents of five children: 1. Anna, who married W. C. Jones, of Bruce, South Dakota; 2. Oella, who married Jacob Swim, of Keya Paha county; 3. Pearl, who married Porter Billings, living near home; 4. James, (no spouse listed) who lived in Bruce, South Dakota; and 5. Linnie, who married John Todd, of Homer, South Dakota.
