Notes

Father of Elizabeth Kester and grandfather of Sarah Liston / date of birth estimated to be around 1730-1740 // His great granddaughter was Charlotte Drake, who married William Hawkins // Charlotte (Drake) and William Hawkins were the parents of William Henry Hawkins and grandparents of William Hieatt Hawkins (both of whom spent most of their adult lives in Nebraska). // ***** // ***** // ***** // William Kester was married three times: (1) The Pound & Kester Books indicates that his first marriage was to a cousin named Elizabeth Kester, who was born JUne 25, 1735. The marriage probably took place Oct. 14, 1756 in or near Kingwood, New Jersey. Some years later, he moved to Virginia or Maryland, and was probably living near Cumberland, Maryland about 1781 when his daughter Elizabeth married Edmund Liston. (2) William was married a second time, about 1762, probably in New Jersey to a widow named Elizabeth (Lacock) Ferguson. She died in Spencer County, Kentucky about 1805-1810. In 1786, the family moved to Kentucky, arriving by flatboat in April near the current location of Louisville, Kentucky. They lived in Nelson County until 1795, when they moved to a location near Elk Creek in Shelby, (now Spencer County). (3) About 1813, he was married a third time to another widow, Sarah (Martin) Stigler who had also been married twice before - her first husband was John Pound, a common ancestor mentioned frequently in the Pound & Kester Book. At the time of their marriage, William was 80 years old and his new wife was 75. They lived with their children, John and Sarah (Pound) Kester in Spencer County, Kentucky until their deaths (each one died at age 87). Both are buried at Elk Creek, Spencer County, Kentucky. (p. 307-308, The Pound & Kester Book) [*Note: I would estimate his date of death about 1820, if he was age 80 when he married Sarah Martin and the marriage took place in 1813. This would place his year of birth about 1733. In this case, Sarah's date of birth would be about 1738 and her year of death about 1825.]
