Notes

Julia Ann GREEN was listed as an heir in [her grandfather] Frederick PRICE’s will. / Dovie Lee and Lillie Louella WILSON were the daughters of Samuel WILSON and Julie Ann GREEN. According to Census records, Samuel WILSON was born in Tennessee in 1853. In 1900, he and Julie Ann had been married 24 years, so they had apparently married about 1875-1876. Julie Ann GREEN‘s recorded birth date is April 1860. She died December 23, 1944, and is buried in Kiowa Cemetery, Kiowa, Oklahoma. Samuel and Julie Ann had eight children, but only four were still living in 1900. Their daughter Lillie was married to Cal LAMBERT. A son, Thomas, was married to Elizabeth LAMBERT. Harvey C. was the youngest (birth date 1893), and Dovie was 13. Paper from Cheney’s Funeral Home in McAlester, Oklahoma for the funeral of “July Wilson” (Julia Ann Green Wilson) states $5.00 = cost of funeral. Signed by Harvey Wilson (nearest relative) // Julie Ann GREEN was the daughter of Charlie (Charles) and Mariah GREEN. For many years in her later life, Julie Ann smoked a “corn cob” pipe, and later a clay pipe. She told stories about being stalked by panthers and bears in their mountain homes and of being a “great big girl” during the Civil War (no age known), and it was learned that her father, Charles (Charlie) GREEN, was killed by bushwhackers. After her father’s death, the GREEN family loaded whatever household and personal items they could fit into (probably) an ox cart and set out to find a safer place to live. The oldest son was probably 13 or 14 at the time. The family had him dress in his mother’s clothing to avoid detection because they were afraid he too would be recruited as a soldier. Somewhere along the trail, Mariah and the baby died. They were buried along the trail and were never found again. The rest of the family settled in the Kiowa area in Oklahoma. (Data supplied by Deloris Brock Hawkins to the Pittsburg County Historical Society for their publication on the history of Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.) /////*****/////*****/////*****/////*****///// NOTE ABOUT PHOTO BELOW: According to information handwritten on the back of my copy of the photo below, Dovie Lee WILSON LAMBERT is the young woman holding the baby boy in the back row of the Lambert Family photo. The baby is her son, Jake Lambert. To the right of Dovie is her mother, Julia Ann (Julie) GREEN WILSON. In front of the two women are two of Dovie Lambert's daughters, Effie and Viola LAMBERT. Dovie's husband, Cal, is not in the photo. Other children and adults (left half of photo) are members of the Bill Lambert Family [My guess is that this is the family of William Wesley Lambert - born 1870 - but the photo lists no other family member names except those already listed here.] The photo says it was taken "about 1907" - in which case, Jake would be several months old, Effie would be about four, and Viola (Oda) would be about two. My guess is that it may have been taken at any time between late 1907 and 1909, as Dovie's next child (Ed) wasn't born until December 1909.
