Notes

[*****SPECIAL NOTE: I'm not sure if his middle name is Scott (logical, as his mother's maiden name is Scott) or Henry. I've seen his name written both ways - William Scott Hawkins and William Henry Hawkins. We know - from personal family records - that his son is William Henry Hawkins.] He married CHARLOTTE(6) DRAKE (daughter of SARAH(5) LISTON, granddaughter of EDMUND(4) LISTON, JOSEPH(3) LISTON, EDMUND E.(2) LISTON, MORRIS(1) LISTON) - date unknown so far, but estimated prior to 1833. Charlotte was born March 11, 1808, and died October 03, 1861 in Edgar Co., IL. WILLIAM HAWKINS is the son of DAVID HAWKINS and JUDY SCOTT. //*****//*****//*****//*****// Notes for CHARLOTTE DRAKE: Info from The Pound and Kester Book: "... buried near Edgar, Illinois. Resided at Bloomfield, Illinois. ... Had eight children. Two died in infancy, and six others .. [Liston.FTW]"" More About CHARLOTTE DRAKE: 0162: The Listons of America: 1665-1987 "Children of CHARLOTTE DRAKE and WILLIAM HAWKINS are: 1. MARTHA ANN HAWKINS, b. 1833; d. September 1893; 2. WILLIAM HENRY HAWKINS, b. February 16, 1837, Edgar Co., IL; 3. DAVID SCOTT HAWKINS, b. April 25, 1839, Edgar Co., IL; d. November 29, 1873, Oak Grove, NE; 4. SARAH A. HAWKINS, b. July 16, 1849, Bloomfield, IL;" //*****//*****//*****// 1850 Illinois Census, Edgar County, District Nineteen, Enumerated October 5, 1840 : Household #822, Family #822 : HAWKINS, William - Head - White Male - Age 37 - Born Hardin County, Kentucky - Occupation: Farmer; HAWKINS, Charlotte - Wife - White Female - Age 48 - Born Preeble County, Ohio; HAWKINS, Martha A. - Daughter - White Female - Age 17 - Born Edgar County, IL; HAWKINS, William H. - Son - White Male - Age 12 - Born Edgar County, IL; HAWKINS, David - Son - White Male - Age 10 - Born Edgar County, IL; HAWKINS, Sarah - Daughter - White Female - Age 8 - Born Edgar County, IL; HAWKINS, Edmond - Son - White Male - Age 6 - Born Edgar County, IL; HAWKINS, Abram - Son - White Male - Age 1 - Born Edgar County, IL // ***** // ***** // ***** // **NOTE: Rootsweb lists a second spouse of William Hawkins named Nancy (born about 1826 in Virginia, died after 1870, maiden name unknown). Appears they were married after the death of Charlotte, as I've not found her name with his in other sources so far, but Charlotte is the mother for all known children and died in 1861, so it's possible they were married after that time (I did find one Census record listing a William & Nancy Hawkins in similar locations). // ***** // ***** // ***** // **NOTE 2: Found another online book (www.vermilioncounty.info/books/1903), the History of Vermillion County, Illinois (published about 1903), which states that William Hawkins is the son of Crosby Hawkins, who came to America from Ireland. This source lists the same offspring and says that William Hawkins married Nancy Phillips, a native of Indiana, after the death of his first wife, Charlotte. Unless David Hawkins and Crosby Hawkins are the same person, these two sources contradict each other as to who is the father of William and therefore the grandfather of his children: William Henry, David Scott, Martha Ann, Edmond Liston, Sarah A. and Abram Conery Hawkins. I have also discovered from Census records that there were two "William Henry Hawkins" families in western Nebraska in 1880. One was my great-grandfather, a farmer, and the other a doctor. One lived in Seward County (1880 > NEBRASKA > SEWARD > A-PCT > Series: T9 > Roll: 756 > Page: 403 > HAWKINS, WILLIAM H. > Age 48 > White Male > Born IL > my relative); the other lived in Sherman County (1880 > NEBRASKA > SHERMAN > UPPER LOUP > Series: T9 > Roll: 756 > Page: 1 > HAWKINS, WILLIAM H. > Age 33 > White Male > Born KY > possibly related, but no connection known other than name . . . and each had a different occupation & set of family members. I have even seen the second William H. Hawkins listed in NE info as William Henry also, however, his wife was named Ida (age 31 in 1880) and he had a son, Leonard L. (age 3 in 1880). Our William Henry was married to Susan Catherine Hieatt, was 48 by 1880, and had eight children (ages 6-22), the oldest of whom was already married and is listed directly below his father's family in the 1880 census.
