H. Hawkins was born February 16, 1837 at Bloomfield (near where the city of Paris now stands) in Edgar County, Illinois. He was united in marriage to Susan Hyeatt at Paris, Ill. Here the eight children were born, all of whom survive the deceased. Mr. Hawkins and family came to Nebraska in 1880, making their home in Seward county. Then in Lancaster and Butler counties for a total of eight years. In 1888 the family moved to Box Butte county, where he homesteaded with the spirit of the early pioneers, in building up this great state of Nebraska. This continued to be his home until May, 1910, when he moved to Springview, Nebr., in Keya Paha county. In 1913, Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins came to Ord and made their home with Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Luse. Mrs. Hawkins passed away in 1914. Mr. Hawkins departed this life February 20th, at the ripe old age of 86 years and 4 days. For sixty years Mr. Hawkins has lived a consistent Christian life. He has helped to start and build many Christian churches in Nebraska. Not only did he labor as a carpenter, but was a man who worked that souls might be brought to Christ. He has in his life time heard many of the foremost preachers of the church of Christ. He is survived by all of his children as follows: Clarence of Alliance, Jennie (Mrs. P.A. Luse) of Ord, William of Springview, Nebr.; Mrs. Adelia Baker of Michigan; Elisheous of Glens Ferry, Idaho; Guyeron of Casper, Wyoming; Susie Winebrenner of Florida; and Lewis Hawkins of Hemingford, Nebr, besides a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon at two-thirty by Pastor Nelson Gardner, assisted by Evangelist Robt. F. Whiston of Lincoln. Interment in the Ord Cemetery.
