Notes

Ruben served in Company K, 59th Infantry, 4th Division, of the U.S. Army and was deployed in France during World War I. He was injured 19 July 1918, and died a short time later (05 September 1918) as a result of his injuries. He is buried in the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne, France. The cemetery is located just east of the village of Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Meuse, France, approximately 26 miles (42 km) northwest of Verdun. Photos of the cemetery and his military grave marker are available at FindaGrave.com (name listed as Rube H. Brock). I have copies of some of the letters and memos sent to the family after his death. These copies were made from the originals found among my grandmother & grandfather's belongings and given to me by my mother. I'm not sure whether the originals still exist, as the house where my grandmother last lived was destroyed by fire in 2006. We salvaged as much as possible, but have no idea where in the house the original items were kept.
