Notes

1920 > NEBRASKA CENSUS > PLATTE COUNTY > 2-WD; COLUMBUS : Series: T625 Roll: 999 Page: 60 : Enumerated January 16, 1920 : BITTENBENDER, THEODORE L. - Head - Age 46 - White Male - Married - Born Pennsylvania - Lives in COLUMBUS, PLATTE COUNTY, NE - 2-WD - Father born Germany - Mother born Pennsylvania; BITTENBENDER, Mable L. - Wife - Age 21? (age is hard to read) - White Female - Married - Born Nebraska - Father born Nebraska - Mother born Missouri; BITTENBENDER, Theodore H. - Son - White Male - Age 4 - Single - Born Nebraska - Father born Pennsylvania - Mother born Nebraska; BITTENBENDER, Isaac H. - Son - White Male - Age 1 - Single - Born Nebraska - Father born Pennsylvania - Mother born Nebraska // ***** // ***** // ***** // ***** // ***** // I understand from my father (Mabel's youngest son) that Mabel is buried in the West Norden Cemetery, somewhere near the unincorporated town of Norden, Nebraska, and that there is a large family headstone with the name Hawkins on it to mark the family plot. There is supposed to be a smaller stone on Mable's grave with her name on it. There should be a much smaller grave nearby - the grave of an infant daughter (name unknown), born about 1929. Mabel's husband, William Hieatt Hawkins (owner of the headstone and family plot) died in Oklahoma and is buried in the North McAlester Cemetery, in the north-eastern part of McAlester, Oklahoma. [UPDATE: In Februray, 2008, records for a Pleasant Dale Cemetery, just south of Norden, Nebraska, were placed online. These records list a grave for Mabel L. Hawkins, born 1897, died 1929 and a stone for W. H. Hawkins, no dates of birth or death. This is consistent with family information for both Mabel L. and William H. Hawkins. According to the web site at : http://www.interment.net/data/us/ne/keya%5Fpaha/pleasant/index.htm, "The Pleasant Dale Cemetery is located 1 mile south of Norden, NE on a county road, 1/2 mile east on a minimum maintenance road, and 1/8 mile south on a pasture trail. The cemetery is attractive and well maintained by the Pleasant Dale Cemetery Association, No records are available. This includes all existing and legible stones and markers from when I walked this cemetery on Nov 03, 2007. this cemetery." Lat: 42° 50' 58"N, Lon: 99° 03' 37"W T33N R23W Section 8 "Hawkins, Mabel L., b. 1897, d. 1929 - Hawkins, W. H., no dates on stone" Records provided Dec 20, 2007 [mlmsam50@threeriver.net]. Total records = 103. [NOTE: I have not personally been able to visit the cemetery, but have contacted the site contributor and am certain this is the actual burial location of Mabel Laura Heath Bittenbender Hawkins.]
